For illiterate adults, the lack of basic skills leads to unemployment or low-paying jobs; and to the possibility of watching their children repeat the cycle. If we could teach these adults to read, what changes would we see in their lives? What changes would we see in our communities?
Literacy is the foundation on which all life-skills are built. While some of our learners have the goal of life enrichment and personal fulfillment, the majority come to us seeking to attain the education necessary for better jobs, promotions in their current job and more economic stability.
The Literacy Council is addressing the illiteracy issue in Central Alabama by teaching adults to read and providing basic English skills to speakers of other languages. Your donation can help.
